On Monday, June 17, 2013, Govenor, Jan Brewer, signed a bill increasing Medicaid coverage in the State of Arizona from 1.3 million to 1.6 million people, an increase of 23%.  Previously, Medicaid coverage in Arizona, which is administered by Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), was restricted principally to single parents and their minor children.  The passage of this bill means that AHCCCS enrollment will be open to many young, qualified, single adults without children.  Even though federal funding for this expansion will probably not be available until early 2014, individuals who may be eligible should apply for Medicaid benefits as soon as possible
